In 2002 a group of correspondence chessfriends from Austria, Germany and Switzerland
found together to build a new team for the ICCF Champions-League Qualification Round.

A suitable name has been found quickly: ALPINE for our common roots and ROOK(IE)S for both,
the strong chess piece and an upcoming new team!

Amazingly, we managed to win our Qualification Round (group 03) and hence,
qualified for the first ICCF Champions-League A-final (group A2) which started officially on December 1, 2004!
